About the program

Tanzania has many young mothers in the villages who have little or no education and no financial support. Additionally, areas are often heavily populated, complicating the livelihood and provision for these mothers ' mothers 'Mothers ' mothers ' mothers 'Mothers' mothers '. Most of these women lack the opportunity to reach education or the means to fund and develop small businesses. Additionally, many of these women are under-empowered or unaware of their fundamental human rights, thus making young mothers vulnerable to abuse.

Art in Tanzania focuses on delivering skills for women to start their small businesses and create markets for their products. At the same time, we educate women's rights and related subjects so that women will learn their rights in problem situations. We focus to be both innovative and effective.

Work with women is underfunded, but Art in Tanzania has multi-professional interns and volunteers. We use teamwork to create opportunities. One can teach how to start horticulture and look for the markets. The base effort is to increase small business skills through the educational approach and to increase awareness. We also focus on giving visibility to women's issues through social media for the Tanzanian population.

Women's group programs are active after working hours as daytime; members work at their small businesses. The practical approach combines vocational training activities to enhance their skills to run small businesses or take over jobs. It is vocational English teaching, accounts, IT skills, small entrepreneurship training, etc. Thereon, we advocate for women's and children's rights, public health issues, and similar supportive matters.

Therefore, the Women's group program is a multi-professional approach of vocational teaching, micro-entrepreneurship skills training, advocacy work, media, and marketing for the products. Many volunteers and interns bring their ideas, and we are happy to test and implement them in Tanzania.

Typical day

Women are active with their small businesses during the daytime. So, morning and early afternoon are program planning and visibility work. They also seek marketing outlets for women's group products, mainly handicrafts.

Active time with the women starts around PM 4 when they arrive at the volunteer compound for training and advocacy sessions. Every participant has a weekly plan for each day, which is then reported in weekly results so we can ensure participants are active.

We are also developing programs where women produce handicrafts, grow herbs, perform other production at their homes daily, and deliver products for the NGO for sale. These activities need guidance and supportive activities.

The fee includes accommodation, breakfast, and dinner, program guidance with orientation and 24 hours of staff presence, and academic graduate team leaders for all programs.

The actual program is free of cost. You may have local small transfer costs.

Cost does not include international flights, local transfers, tourist visas, and personal purchases.

Accommodation

Our eco-compound in Madale Village in the Dar es Salaam area has dorms and single, double, and family rooms. As an eco-compound, we use our design composting dry toilets; we collect shower water and urine and use it as "grey water" for our extensive garden irrigation. Construction materials include bamboo, recycled bottles, and similar. This compound is located in Madale village, so it is a countryside place but only a short distance from the city.

We charge accommodation with breakfast and dinner only.

Food & Beverages

We serve breakfast and dinner as accommodation inclusive. Lunches are available at a nominal cost, but you need to book one every morning as many people are not at the compound. We cook and charge only those present and wish to have lunch.

All drinks are personal cost. Drinking water is available everywhere at a low price. We also run a compound bar, so you can easily access drinks and snacks.

2020 at Support Women Initiatives

I recently came back from Tanzania with a friend of mine, we went to volunteer for 2 weeks on the women empowerment programme hosted by Art in Tanzania. I'd like to suggest you remove Art in Tanzania from this platform. All the money that we paid do not go towards the compound or the programmes. ..
