Combine your passion for animals and desire to give back to society by improving the unfortunate situation of abandoned street animals in Greece. During this volunteering program, you can help to look for a new safe and beautiful home for stray dogs.

About the Project

The program is managed by a local in Greece at the beautiful Crete Island, that aims to improve the situation of animals living on the streets. Due to the amount of work that it takes to keep the program running, the help provided by volunteers is always greatly appreciated. Animals are only mediated when a family has the correct surrounding for a dog.

What you can expect

Before starting your volunteer work project, you will receive an orientation by our local staff. The local stuff is run by english speaking people. They are very happy to welcome volunteers from all over the world. Usually you will be in the program with other volunteers. The project can be reached in a few minutes by bus.

Typical day

You will help from 6 am (during high season and climate) or 8/9 am (low season) till 2 pm or you can do the afternoon shift. Your schedule is flexible, depending on the volunteer. Like this, you will have time to enjoy your afternoon at the beach.

You will help from 6 am (during high season and climate) or 8/9 am (low season) till 2 pm or you can do the afternoon shift. Your schedule is flexible, depending on the volunteer. Like this, you will have time to enjoy your afternoon at the beach.

This program allows you to rescue and work with abandoned cats and dogs while helping them to find a new home. Daily tasks may include: 

  • Feeding animals
  • Socializing
  • Cleaning cages and equipment
  • Drug administration and support with sterilization procedures
  • Helping with rescue operations where animals are brought in from the street 
  • Food distribution for animals that live on the street
  • Fundraising & Social Media (for long term volunteers, just a few periods per year)
Volunteers help 5 days a week. Please stay flexible with your days off, as this depends on the number of volunteers and local helpers.

Free-time activities

During your free time/days you can go to the beach. Enjoy activities like:

  • swimming
  • relaxing on the beach and so on
  • Additionally, Greece has a lot of historic sites to see!

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

Accommodation

Your accommodation will be in a fully equipped apartment. Their are two options of accommodations, some 10 others up to 20 minutes away from the shelter. Some city or close by the shelter. The accommodations are close and other about 30 minutes to the center and the ocean. You will stay in a double room or 3-bed room. Single room is up on request on a higher fee.

Cause we are a smaller agency we stay always in a good communication to our volunteers and to the communites. For us it is important to find the right programm for your stay abroad. History: 

Jamso Trainee startet in December 2012 helping in communities in Costa Rica. Costa Rica is since now the county with the most interns, volunteers and travelers. 

Since 2013 Jamso Trainee started working with partners in Ecuador, Peru, South Afrika.

2015 we begin working with our partner Bali and Thailand.

Visiting projects and getting more relationshsips with local charities is a goal of each year. Jamso Trainee don´t increase too fast, because for us it is very important to hold long contacts and stay in a good communication with volunteers and projects.
