About the program

If you have a love for sports and a little sporting ability, then you could play an important part in the personal development of young sports men and women in Ghana. Our sports projects include soccer or football, basketball, net ball coaching in schools and communities. Volunteer Sports Coaching Placement takes you on a sport coaching which can have a very positive impact on children. As well as the obvious physical and mental benefits that regular exercise provides, there are many inherent life-skills to be learn, such as the importance of team-work, communication and discipline.

Why Sports?

Wherever you travel in the world you will always find people who love sports. Sports bring people together and help to build strong communities, as well as contribute to the creation of healthy, happy individuals. Sports can also provide a much-needed distraction from more negative aspects of people’s lives and, to many child from disadvantaged backgrounds, it can offer a route out of poverty and a path of excitement and promise. Our sports projects share the following aims

Fostering of local sports talent through provision of quality coaches and support for our volunteer trainee coaches. Development of the wider communities in which we work through offering alternatives to young people from impoverished areas.

What you can expect

As a sport coaching volunteer, you will be helping with all aspect of the team while working with the most enthusiastic children in some of the poorest communities in Ghana, we can help you make the most of your time. We will help you find a schedule that is right for you. Sport coaching volunteers are responsible for helping in the organization in all aspects of training; from setting up drills and fitness sessions, to coaching sports teams in competitive games. This project is a fantastic chance to improve your skills and ability whilst also helping local children to develop their talents and have fun.

Furthermore you will help the local coach to plan match strategies and take practice games. You will probably be asked to assist in team selection and may even be required to be 'on the bench' for weekend or evening matches. There will also be the opportunity for Volunteers to sometimes take young players to games to see some of Ghana's many top division club teams - like Kotoko and Hearts of Oak - in action to help with their footballing development and to provide a well-earned break from your sport coaching.
