About the program


The green environment invites you to join a volunteer program in forest conservation; This project is specially designed to suits volunteers for its ecological projects for periods of one to five months. This project includes: promoting the use of sustainable practices; renewable energy development; and environmental education and the re-vegetation of hillsides using native plants to reduce erosion and create habitats; participants who are also interested in the nursery conservation can also apply.

The core aim in this project is to assist and restore the lost forest with artificial forest to conserve the environment.

Our volunteer program offers many opportunities to volunteer in various fields.



Typical day

Usually working days are from Monday to Friday. You will work 5-8 hours per day
Working hours are flexible. The participants can choose their own working days and working hours.


Activities expected volunteers to get involved:

  • Picking of seedlings,
  • filling of the seed bags,
  • Tree Nursery
  • Transplanting
  • Fetchin

Free-time activities

Weekends, are free days to volunteers. You may choose to travel out of town to see the many interesting sights and sounds in other parts of Ghana or hang out with your fellow volunteer(s) and/or locals in the neighborhood.

Weekend trips available include visits to Mole National Park in the Northern Region of Ghana. This National Park offers a great Safari-like experience and is one of the biggest Elephant Sanctuaries in Africa with the chance to spot Lions, Leopards & Antelopes in their natural habitat.
Volunteers can also take a trip to Cape Coast in the Central Region of Ghana to relax in the beautiful beaches and see the famous Cape Coast castle, the Kakum Canopy walkway and Elmina castle, where slave trade begun.

In order to join the program you need to be at least 17 years old on the program start date.

Airport Pickup at Kotoka International Airport

On the day (or night) of your arrival, SAMBA AFRICA VOLUNTEERING (SAVO) staffs will be at the Accra Kotoka International airport to welcome you and transfer you to a hotel with air-conditioned rooms and restaurant only in the night of your arrival, Orientation and transportation to your assigned placement will be done the next morning following your arrival day but arrival in day time you will be transported to your destination (Kumasi).

Accommodation

Accommodation belongs to the host-families. There are always other people in the house as well; and they would be willing to give you some assistance. You would be placed in the same location with another volunteer - unless you specifically state that you like to be stayed alone. Participants coming as couple or pair will not be placed with other volunteers in the same bedroom. volunteer(s) have their separate room - with a lock and key. It is advisable to come along with a mosquitoes nets.

Food & Beverages

Host families will provide volunteers with breakfast, lunch and dinner during the working week.

Breakfast is usually ready by around 7am; however volunteer can eat later if you prefer to get up late. Lunch is usually packed by your host family in a lunch box so that you can eat at your project if you wish. Dinner is usually served around 6pm.

If you have special eating needs, you can inform us. Even though special eating needs are not something we can guarantee, we will do our best to meet your needs.

The nearest airport is Kotoka International Airport (ACC) in Accra. We assist you to find cheap flights to Ghana. FIND CHEAP FLIGHTS

Travel Insurance
