About the program

Ha Giang, the Vietnam's northernmost province you see today is steeped in ancient rites and traditions that have survived throughout history. However, hill tribes here are suffering tremendously due to their poor health care system and lack of resources. Doctors are disproportionately located in inner cities leaving the rural villages without adequate access to care.
Vietnam health care system comprises by four administrative levels of health establishments: central level, provincial level, district level and commune level. At the present, public health care sector widely coverage from central to grassroots levels. Vietnamese government targets to make health care system universal and affordable for all people. The Vietnamese health financing system has been remarkably improved along with multiple reforms, i.e., funding for health care for the poor and children under 6 years; however, public expenditure being low and total budget for health has not yet met the actual needs. In addition, user-fee of service was introduced in order to improve finance the health care system, which has caused increase in out-of-pocket payment,  especially vulnerable groups could not afford to pay unreliable

We need help from volunteer doctors, advanced practice providers (NP, PA, CRNA, NMW, etc.), and licensed therapists (RT, PT, OT, etc.) will be collaborate with local general hospital and doctors/nurse to diagnose and treat sick patients of hill tribes in Ha Giang mountainous. The specialties of the volunteers on each of our medical program determines the makes-up of the medical team, meaning it is different on each mission. But all volunteers work together with local general hospital to provide the best care possible for hill tribes in Ha Giang province.

Volunteer doctors and advanced practice providers on Baiyue medical program may be specialists in pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, infectious disease, pain management (including acupuncture and chiropractic providers), physical medicine, geriatrics, family practice, or mental health. Nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, and occupational therapists work side by side with physicians and advanced practice volunteers to provide comprehensive care for hill tribes in Ha Giang province (Hmong, Red Yao, Nung, La Chi, Lo Lo, Pa Then...)

Ha Giang is just 300 kilometers from Hanoi, but the life that unfolds in the province is a world apart from most other places, given its topography and ethnic diversity.

WHAT TO EXPLORE

Nestled in the middle of a valley, the Dong Van Old Quarter, also called Dong Van Old Town, is a unique gem in Vietnam’s final frontier that is surrounded by high rocky mountains and limestone formations.

The old town was formed in the early 20th century with a few Hmong, Tay and Chinese families settling down here.

Now, the town has 40 two-storied houses with a touch of Chinese architecture such as yin-yang tiled roofs, yellow walls and red lanterns hung on the gables.
The road was completed in 1965 after 11 years of construction mostly by workers belonging to the Hmong ethnic group.
Negotiating the pass is a tough task even for the most seasoned travelers and some foreign tourists have died driving off the pass.
"Ma Pi Leng pass is such a wonder of the world which lies right on the border of Vietnam and China. The pass offers breathtaking landscapes and exotic walking trails along the mount. Love this!" said Victor from Denmark.
A boat trip on the Nho Que River’s turquoise waters at the foot of Ma Pi Leng Pass is another highly recommended travel experience.
