About the program

The project

Whether you are a teacher, or just enjoy working with children, you should consider including this project in your adventure plans.

Our teaching placements are designed to give people who are interested in pursuing a career in a specific field their first taste of what it might be like. We also want to provide professionals who’ve already chosen their career path a unique experience that will help them to develop new skills, and present new opportunities.

You don’t need to have any previous teaching experience to get involved with this project.

The location

Cambodia is a country of incredible beauty and interesting history best known for its monumental temples and captivating nature. It was once known as the Khmer empire and later was a French protectorate for almost 100 years until 1953 when it gained its independence. The following years of political unrest, war and corruption have not broken the spirit of the Cambodian people who remain open, welcoming and positive.

Typical day

Cambodia is one of the poorest countries in South-east Asia - more than 75% of the population survive on less than $2 a day. Like many of the world’s poorest countries, Cambodia lacks the basic infrastructure to lift itself from the grip of poverty. Education is vital to the future generations of Cambodian children; children who are keen to learn, and who understand the importance of learning.

We’re offering you the opportunity to work with the children of Samraong, and help them to work towards a better future. While teaching English will be the main aim of your placement, the dire state of the local schools means that you may be called upon to help renovate, and rebuild school buildings, and orphanages. You might be asked to teach the children about environmental issues, or help them with their work in the vegetable garden.

Free-time activities

Cambodia has a sobering history, which you can explore in the many museums explaining their dark history. You can then lighten things up by swimming and snorkling in their amazing seaside towns

Airport Pickup at Siem Reap International Airport

Upon arrival you will be met at the airport by a project representative and taken to the project HQ.

You need to arrive on the Sunday before your start date (each Monday) to be picked up from the airport. If you need to arrive earlier or later, additional fees will apply. Check with us before booking any flights.

Accommodation

You will be housed in Samraong with local home-stays, or at a guest house if home-stays are not possible. Living with a local family can be a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the culture of a country, but if you’d rather stay in a guest house, this can be arranged.

Laundry facilities are limited, so you should expect to wash your clothes by hand during parts of your trip. All our visitors are expected to be environmentally aware and to use all resources with restraint; especially water, paper and electricity. You’ll be expected to clean up after yourself, and play your part in keeping the accommodation neat and organised.

Private rooms are available for an additional £100(please ask for $ equivalent) per week.

About the project

We believe real change can happen when people find life-enhancing opportunities.

Meet your organization

Who we are

Global Nomadic empowers positive change by connecting people with projects

Global Nomadic was founded in 2008 with one clear goal – to empower change by connecting people. We believe real change can only come about when people are able to find the right opportunities with the right organisations. Over the past years, we have grown to offer high-quality international internships in a wide range of professional fields, but our aim is still the same; connecting people with projects.

We provide aspiring young professionals with exactly what is needed to set them apart in the very competitive world we live in. We exist to help you further your career through educational international work experience placements, but also to help NGOs around the world carry out their community-building work, by connecting them with you. By working with local NGOs, charities, and communities you will gain excellent experience and valuable skills, aiding you to further your ambitions – whilst making a difference where it’s needed most.

This world is not a perfect place – and we don’t claim to be able to fix it. But what we can do is provide a bridge between you and the people who can. Our mission is to work towards a better and more stable world by connecting people with projects. We believe we work better together than apart. We believe travel and exposure to other cultures, beliefs and ways of life are the best ways to achieve this. We believe you can travel the world and travel your career.

What we do

We provide access to vetted, worthwhile international internships in a wide range of professional fields.

We work in a range of different fields from veterinary medicine and environmental conservation to journalism, public health, business development and education – matching you with reputable, worthwhile organisations around the world. Unlike many other volunteer organisations, we have personally visited and vetted our project partners, to ensure you a safe and worthwhile international experience.

We also choose to only work with partners whose projects contribute to their local community in a sustainable manner. We do not support, nor advocate orphanage tourism or irresponsible wildlife conservation projects. Our aim is to help our project partners focus on their core work by offering an easy way to find committed interns and volunteers to support their daily activities.

Our volunteers

Global Nomadic is a trusted community meeting space connecting people with NGO projects around the world.

We also offer helping you to source and organise the best flights, insurance, visas and all the many other things you will need before you reach your project destinations, including country guides, packing lists and much more! We want to make sure that you have the volunteering time of your life.

Global Nomadic personally visits all volunteer sites to ensure a quality experience for volunteers. You will receive support before, during and after your placement.
