Sobre el programa

Volunteer duties are diverse and include interaction with the center's exotic animals’, general conservation, and visitor education. So if you want to create a positive future for these mistreated animals, while exploring the world’s most remarkable rainforest, then read on!

We include a 1-week full immersion FREE Spanish course because we believe that it will allow you to have a greater impact on the project, as you will be able to interact with local people and communities and share knowledge and skills. The Spanish course is catered to your project and will teach you specific vocabulary that you will need during the placement.

Challenges
Illegal animal trafficking in Ecuador is far-reaching, the trade is the fourth most profitable illegal activity in the world. In 2014, the number of trafficked animals rescued by authorities was approximately 8,000. Most exotic animals are taken from their natural rainforest environment in order to be sold on the domestic or international market. Animals most at risk from trafficking are being sold as pets, they include reptiles, mammals, birds, fish and insects.

Solutions
In recent years, several non-profit rescue centers have opened within Ecuador with the aim to rehabilitate, care for, and release back into the wild captured exotic animals. Although wildlife trafficking is now officially an illegal activity, the law can be hard to implement, especially in the outlying regions of the Amazon, therefore these important shelters are at the leading edge of the fight against illegal trafficking. We need your assistance to keep these centers in working order. Together we can stop this cruel industry!

Come and join us to:
  • Work closely with vulnerable animals under the supervision of the center.
  • Learn about the process to rehabilitate different breeds of animals.
  • Give close care and attention to mistreated, neglected or abandoned animals.
  • Rehabilitate animals and teach them how to survive in their natural habitat.
  • Release the animals back into the wild and give them a second chance in life.
  • Inform both local population and visitors on issues concerning illegal trafficking.
  • Create a lasting relationship between the community and the environment.

Our Organization

We work as international logistics, communications and service provider for humanitarian aid projects by supporting local, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), non-profit organizations (NPOs) and private development aid initiatives. All organizations we work with, are vetted to ensure they have high levels of accountability and transparency.

Our Commitment

We provide a platform through which organizations in Latin America can find the resources they need to achieve their goals, including people placement, technology and capacity building. This includes skilled manpower, relief items, construction materials, administrative, educational, environmental and medical support. Our commitment is to be an online advocate and agent of change.

Our Approach

NGO Taxi identifies projects in need. When a project has been approved to be accountable we send volunteers to support and work together with communities and supporters to identify issues and design sustainable solutions (e.g. micro finance initiatives). From beginning to end the entire life cycles of our projects – the identification process, the evaluation process and the monitoring of project locations and development aid initiatives – are documented.

I have rarely seen so many happy people, and laughed so freely. I spent my time in Peru in the animal shelter project. My thoughts of what to expect there were quite different to what I found. The village in which you live consists mainly of wooden huts, with mountains and greenery around you ...
it was wonderful to discover that the whole world is full of nice people. After I finished my studies I decided to travel before my work started. I wanted to do something very different to my study subject and have new experiences. Besides, it was important to me to do something useful and make a ...
Very Productive Stay at the Animal Rescue Center in the Amazon -- My name is Jared, I am 26 years old and from the USA. Recommended to those interested in learning about animals in interesting and challenging situations. Whilst at the project I worked closely with the NGO Taxi hosts Ceasar & Victoria. I helped to coordinate all ground operations and we quickly became ‘bien amigos’. Most of my fellow NGO Taxi ...
I volunteered at the Animal Rescue Center located in the jungle, Napo province. Here I lived in the project’s volunteer house within a lovely nature reserve, containing many birds and monkeys amongst other animals. I worked observing and conserving the wildlife at the Center. If your Spanish ...
