Helping children with their homework can bring the satisfaction of
making children future a little brighter. You will also have the
opportunity to teach English.
Help street kids get a better life!
THE PROJECT
Our after-school program is located at the heart of the city of
Arequipa, a few blocks away from the main square and close to most bus
stations and where many woman work selling handcrafts, food, and helping
in restaurants/hotels. The project is a secure place for their kids to
stay in the afternoons while they are working. The project is run by the
Catholic Church, but all kids from any religion are accepted and
welcome. They accommodate about 40 kids from 6 to 12 years old.
The kids come from very poor areas and stay every afternoon from
14:00hs to 18:00hs, where they have lunch (for most is their only meal)
and start doing their homework. The kids are separated by age and school
grade, and each classroom they have a teacher guiding and helping them
with Math, Geography, Spanish and History.
Volunteer tasks may include:
Volunteers are welcome to teach English, sports, art and help teacher
with their daily tasks, assisting children with assignments and homework, such as reading, writing, and math.Peru Volunteer and Travel provides materials, books and
lesson ideas to help you with your classes.
Please expect that your project may feel disorganized, understaffed
and underfunded. It is for these reasons that volunteers are so
desperately needed. Volunteers will have all the support needed from
Peru Volunteer and Travel!
