About the program

The Program

This program has been created with the aim to educate and provide training for women who live in rural areas, slums, villages and those who come from BPL (Below Poverty Line) families. Every day women and young girls come to our center for a basic education. Many of the women who visit our center are unable to read or write, as educating women is just not a priority in so many of the impoverished areas of India.

Basic classes in spoken and written English and mathematics are offered. English has become a global communication language, building a bridge between many areas of the world. It is so important for these women to see themselves and others as being able to take part in such global conversation.

Perhaps most practical is that we provide training in many of the areas that these women will likely find work. Classes in stitching work, drawing and henna paint provide these women with the skills to access available work or even start their own business.

An individual and group counselling service has also been established to give these women a safe place to share their issues and talk freely about anything.

Our women empowerment program also offer you the chance to teach young girls & boys at the age from 5 to 12 years old. This program makes wonderful opportunity for participants to work with both women & children in one program. The reason to mix the program is that most of the children that come to our center are the children of the women who also come here and it is better for the young ones to be with their mothers. Children which live in rural areas are not able to go to school because their families are very poor and also there is no awareness in regard to education for children.

Work for Volunteers

You can support Indian women in many ways, depending on your skills and interests and the needs of the local community.

Volunteers in this program are involved in activities like:

  • helping our center with skills development & training course
  • teach basic English & maths to women
  • education (literacy) awareness work
  • female health awareness program
  • income generative skills training
  • personality development
  • awareness raising activities

We invite people from all over the world to come and be a part of our women empowerment program. Come with expertise and help women of India to learn or come with no expertise and learn together. Your small effort can make a big difference in the life of many Indian women. We do however request our volunteers to come with an open mind and be flexible to the whole experience! It takes time for you to learn about the local women before you start your actual work and you need patience for that. Working in the community is not straightforward, there is no manual on how to proceed in these situations. You will be working with women of a totally different culture and lifestyle and at times it will be confronting.

Daily Guidance

You will be having a program coordinator at the program site which will help you, assist you and guide you how to do and help you in all ways.

Program Location & Daily Transport Facility

We provide accommodation to participants at Indian host families that are in the center of Jaipur. Our program locations are just 15 mins with the tuk-tuk from your accommodation. It is just in the outskirts of Jaipur. Everyday the program taxi comes to pick you and once you finish the program it will drop you back at your place.

Expectation, Qualification & Materials to bring

We expect volunteers to not act as if they were here as tourists, they must do the work they are supposed to do. They need to understand that they come for work and need to live like the people here live, respect the culture and get involved with all that is happening in India. There is no special qualification required for the program we just need your helping hands to run the program and help the women who come everyday to our center. You do not have to bring any material from your home as we provide all the things to participants.

What you will gain from this program

  • memories to last a lifetime from both your work and of the incredible country of India
  • personal satisfaction and peace from giving back to the community
  • the opportunity to learn Indian culture, language and their traditions
  • volunteer experience working in an under-developed country to add to your CV
  • lifetime membership with VWI after completion of your program
  • make friends with people from all over the world

About the project

VWI offers affordable volunteering in India programs for individuals/couples/families/groups and students to make a great contribution.

Meet your organization

Who we are?

Volunteering With India is a NGO Non-Profit Goverment Organization which is registered under Rajasthan, Indian Society Registration act 1958. VWI offers a unique combination of volunteering projects and action-packed adventure travel in a fun, safe, educational, and well-organized environment. Our main goal is to deal with problems concerning underprivileged women, orphanages, child care, work in rural areas, health programs for sick, dying & disabled people, theater workshops & elephant care.

We have a strong team of coordinators who run successful and effective volunteering programs. We work directly with local schools, people that live in rural areas, and orphanages. We make sure that each of our volunteering programs meets the high standard as expected and deserved by our volunteers. Safety is high on our priority list and we always make sure that you feel safe in all our placements.

Helping to Non-Profit Organisation's

Volunteering With India has as its founders a group of friends. With the help of our team members and volunteers like you we support local NGO's in their work for the development of community; we taught children in rural areas how to use the computers, and even their teachers, because part of them they did not know how to do it. We support working with street children, orphanage and the women empowerment movement. We also involved with aspects like theater education to school children and we were amazed in seeing the kids do so well in the drama we put in play. The Organization also deals with animal care centers.

All this work led to our desire to build an organization that can handle all this problems. Currently the organization is running successful volunteering programs in the city of Jaipur and in the rural areas that surround it. Our work is about helping children stay in school and give them a better education, and develop their talents, about helping women become more independent and be aware about their rights, about raising awareness about animal rights. We hope our work will help develop a more powerful, educated and aware society.

We welcome every person that wants to help us continue our work in the Indian society. Every help is needed and we hold great respect for every individual that wants to work in a volunteering program. The satisfaction that a person has in working for the benefit of humanity is the greatest one can hold.

Volunteer in India Mission

Our Mission is to create a worldwide network of volunteers that can help children in rural areas, the women empowerment movement in India, children that live in orphanages, the sick and disabled and animals. Our Aim will be to remove poverty and illiteracy from the country Volunteer in India with us! We invite you to become a life time member of VWI for free after you finish your volunteer work with us. We hope that you share your experiences with friends and family, and you encourage them to join the adventure of a life time Volunteering in India.

Where do we work?

Presently we are working in the main local city area Jaipur and in its surroundings. Jaipur is the capital city of Desert state called Rajasthan. It’s is also know as Pink City. The city has maintained its traditions, culture and heritage for nearly three centuries of its existence. Neither very low temperature during cold winter months nor the scorching heat in the hottest summer months. Jaipur comes in the part of Northern India. Around 4.5 million people reside in Jaipur.

Who are we looking for?

The volunteers can be from all over the world. There is no any age limit to join the volunteer program. Participants main characteristic is the willingness to help. Our volunteers give their time and money to conserve and protect the environment, uplift and build positive communities, teach children, and promote health, education, and ecological awareness in India.

Why do I have to pay for my volunteering experience?

We do not have any financial support or funding of any kind, so volunteers have to fund their projects themselves. The money volunteers pay, allow us to provide them with all the support and services. Volunteers will work in places where they are really needed. Also our partners are non-profits organizations doing meaningful, much-needed work in their local communities in India; in addition, the amount of volunteer fees are used as a donation to these organizations to keep the projects running. The donations are used for the facilities which the communities need. The donations go to help schools that are in needed, and to other materials that the community requires, like computers, study materials, clothe, play materials, and food. The community people and staff are also supported by this donation.

Is it safe?

India is a very safe country. Indians are very friendly with foreigners, and treat them with respect. Many people will greet you throughout India with the phrase "Namaste" (hello); the most commonly spoken local language is Hindi.

Do I need a visa?

India has its own visa policies, and these policies vary according to the nationality of the visitor. For most countries you can get a tourist visa with little or no problem. You can apply with Tourist Visa and join our programs. There is a On Arrival Visa Facility also available at the Airports in India which you can get it for 30 days. We recommend checking online, or contact with the nearest Indian consulate for more information.
