About the program

In the last years, Spain has received thousands of immigrants seeking protection from situations of way or poverty. These newcomers, whether they are refugees or humanitarian immigrants, have a high level of vulnerability and lack different skills to be able to integrate into the local community. In the city of Barcelona, there are some organizations focused on the process of integrating these immigrants into Catalan society through different projects that offer opportunities to create a social network, language classes, weekly leisure or training activities. The goal is to foster their empowerment, autonomy, and well-being.

In this program, you will go to the local host center of the immigrants and refugees and engage with them in an informal way. The goal is to welcome 18 to 25 years old boys and provide them with the opportunity to access academic training, to help them to integrate into Barcelona society and of course, empower them to become independent.

This specific program seeks the socialization of this group of people through a common interest with the volunteers: cooking, eating, and the English language! Volunteers will join and support the local host center in its daily tasks in the afternoon, mainly preparing, cooking, and distributing meals for the guests. At the same time, you will teach them English skills in an informal way as that can undoubtedly be an important skill for their future.

Honestly, I was surprised, when on the website it shows photos of so many dogs, animals, it turned out I was working at a cat sanctuary. It's not that I was disappointed by the cats, it was just a shock, and also, at points of the sanctuary I feel like I wasn't apart of it massively, there wasn't ...
